Zodiac Calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Reception: Ancient Astronomy and Astrology in Early Judaism

The traditional mathematical foundation of the Aramaic calendars within the useless Sea Scrolls is analysed during this research. Helen R. Jacobus re-examines an Aramaic zodiac calendar with a thunder divination textual content (4Q318) and the calendar from the Aramaic Astronomical booklet (4Q208 - 4Q209), all from Qumran. Jacobus demonstrates that 4Q318 is an ancestor of the Jewish calendar this present day and that it is helping us to appreciate 4Q208 - 4Q209.

Don’t just rotate the objective, because the fault is more likely to be in the attachment of the objective to the main tube than in the objective itself. If neither the objective nor the eyepiece seem at fault there may be two more places to look. If you have a star diagonal try checking the diagonal mirror. If it is not square to the optical axis the light from one side will be forced to travel a greater distance than the light from the other side. There is one more part of the system to check.

Typical of PVC fittings the large end of the adapter has a slight taper. That is so that, when used for plumbing, a pipe pressed into the fitting will fit tightly. Because of that taper our ring has to be made into a split ring. Just cut about a 3/8 inch slot in the ring. That allows a little compression so it can be squeezed into position. It can be cemented in place with PVC cement. The supplied cell is slipped into the adapter to rest on your split ring and is held in place by two 1/4 × 20 machine screws taped Telescope Description and Capabilities 47 Fig.

As an individual lens it will have a focal length of about 2/3–3/4 that of the two components combined. The other component (the flint) is negative; that is, it is a reducing lens. In combination the flint cancels part of the power of the crown but also has a color “error” that reverses – cancels – the color error of the crown. That is why you don’t get the extreme color fringes that you got with the magnifying glass experimental telescope. The red end of the spectrum is folded onto the blue end, and the intermediate light ends up pretty much in the same place.
