It was set to music by John Merbecke in a version which is still commonly used. The communion service (called ‘The Supper of the Lord and Holy Communion, Commonly called the Mass’) retained much from earlier missals. The bread was distributed with these words, indicating the real presence of Anglicanism Christ: THE body of our Lord Jesus Christ which was given for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. 1552: Changes were made emphasizing the reformed character of the liturgy. Attempts at reconciliation proved fruitless and a stern Act of Uniformity was passed in 1662. All ministers had to be ordained by bishops, and all 53 Competing visions for the Church of England To discuss the matter of religion, a conference was held at the Savoy in London in 1661. Twelve theologians attended from each side. The Presbyterians set about producing objections to the Prayer Book which led to the ‘Savoy Book’, which was more Genevan in tone than the Tudor Prayer Books.
