We can see virtually every tone in the scene, from white clouds to dark shadows in the rocks. The exposure of 2-3 at 1/400 second captures the movement of the waves, and an f-stop of f/11 shows depth of field throughout the scene with an ISO setting of 200. In image 2-4, the scene is approximately 1 ½ stops darker, and in image 2-5 the scene is approximate 1 ½ stops brighter, and you can see the change in the histogram with those changes. Each of the five areas expresses approximately one f-stop worth of exposure.

A silhouette needs some different elements than a regular photograph. The subject of the image should be backlit, or have some background that is brighter than the subject. In most cases, a bright sky becomes both the light source and the background for a silhouette.
