A special change-over unit continuously tests both processors and whenever a fault is located in one module it could easily change over the output control to the standby module, without any loss of data and without the system user feeling it. This system structure also has the advantage that it is possible to service one processor without disturbing the operations of the other processor, or, in other words, without affecting the systems functional operations.

In a shared transmission channel where the channel resources are randomly assigned (as in A L O H A scheme), the channel can reach a saturation point which consequently brings all the data traffic to a complete standstill.
